If I Get a Little Lost

If I get a little lost don’t worry about me. Just remind me why I do all of this. Shake my spirit slightly and direct my vision to the western setting sky.

If I lose myself a little out there, don’t cry for me. The tears aren’t worth the joy that’s being lived. Not very many have been able to hold me down, and I know that few in the future will be able to either. Chances are, If I get lost out there, I planned it anyways.

Look to the mountains above, take in their massive beauty. See in detail the rugged crags of their headwalls, the rocky outcroppings from which only the angels and the birds know the view. I mean to be there. It is where I belong. It is where I feel whole. My mind wanders there often.

Every morning that I wake, my ambition swells with another day to go out there. One would be hard-pressed to find something that can hold me back for too long. The determination of a man unfettered, the wild stubbornness of a grizzled mountain goat. The ferocity of a pit-viper if tempted. I’ve seen the lasting fiery-orange of the alpenglow and the bright promise of a midsummer full moon over the tundra. The reminder will always stick to the back of my mind.

Don’t miss me, often join me. Moments are best savored in good company. One finds the mountains more fulfilling when things are shared within them.

Smile often. It makes the time spent above the clouds that much sweeter.

Breathe in deep the thin air. It builds strong lungs.

Take nothing for granted. As soon as you may gain something, it can be lost.

Love without ceasing. We are made for one another, in our relationships with others lies our true purpose in life.

Choose to live rather than to survive. From the moment at birth, our days in this human life are numbered, enjoy the gift of life from God rather than waste it in meaningless use of time.

Always learn something new. Even the most experienced of mountaineers have had a new lesson time and again.

Savor the moment. They only come but a few select seasons throughout a lifetime.

If I lose myself a little out there, hopefully now you’ll understand why. Many search for purpose, even more search diligently for success. Choose your path as you may, and allow me to chose mine. Regardless, you’re always welcome to join.

If I get a little lost don’t worry about me. Just remind me why I do all of this. Shake my spirit slightly and direct my vision to the western setting sky.
